Falling for a Friend
I held her hand and walked a mile,
Silence trickling conversations awhile.
Years of friendship have kept us strong;
Won’t let her fall, won’t let her wrong.
She whispered to me, her abysmal desires,
Her mysteries, her secrets, her fire, her dire.
I listened to her, mine, a secret wish, a fond;
That someday, our amity will go beyond.
Fell in love and that deemed a crime,
Grave punishments, said oh so grime.
Love’s mercy lies eight years of friendship;
The tightened bond, the loosened grip.
I held her hand and walked a mile,
The last mile and a stranger’s smile.
